Plant Care Guidelines

Adaptation:
Throughout the United States.

Flowering Time:
Late spring to fall.

Light:
Full sun.

Planting Time:
Plant in the fall for bloom next spring to summer, or plant in the spring for bloom in late summer and spring of the following year.

Soil:
Well drained, high in
organic matter. pH 6.0 to 7.5.

Fertilizer:
When planting, add a small handful of bone meal or superphosphate 0-20-0 to the bottom of the planting hole. During the growing season, fertilize with a balanced plant food according to label directions.

Water:
How much: Apply enough water to wet the soil to 1½ feet deep.

How often: Water when the soil 1 inch below the surface is just barely moist.

Handling:
When planting, do not bury the crown of the plant. Cut back old flower stalks to promote further bloom. When new shoots are 6 to 8 inches high, cut back old stems to ground. Stake tall varieties.
